The hood and front quarter panel relationship on the new F-150 seems to be pretty similar to the Nissan Titan. Throw in the slant on the headlight. The weird vent thing and it’s close to the XD.
I mean they aren’t exactly the same but they share characteristics with the front 3/4 view.

And another thing, why no mention of the all electric F-150 we’ve heard rumors about?

Agreed. I also can’t get over the fact that the F-150 looks like a major refresh of an existing truck. It doesn’t look all new to me?

That's been true since the one after the jellybean F-150. All of the new ones since have looked like refreshes of the last one. Ford is scared to take a chance. Which is stupid, because the jellybeans sold like crazy, despite being IMO hideous ... I still can't believe I own one of those things now.

Remember how divisive the second -gen Dodge RAM was? I never heard so many country boys lose their minds. One of my buddies ditched GM for a second-gen RAM and has owned them ever since. I’m sure his dad rolled over in his grave. They had been GM/Chevy folks as long as I had known them. In fact, his dad’s Chevy 1-ton was the truck I learned to back trailers with.

like shop-teacher said, this is nothing new... the 2009-2014 ones were just heavily modified 2004-2008 F150s... from the 70s-96, the F series were essentially the same truck with modifications each gen. You can especially see it from the 1987-1991 trucks compared to the 92-96 ones
the beds on those trucks were interchangeable

The new titan certainly apes the F150. Though at a certain point I think all trucks are going to start looking alike from an aerodynamic standpoint.

The reason there is a similarity is, as you said, that the Titan took a little too much inspiration from the F150 to begin with.

That was probably the biggest deal in trucks ever. Certainly in my lifetime. Nothing else has come close to how big of a deal the second gen Ram was in ‘94. It very nearly got my dad to switch from Chevy to Dodge too. The only thing that stopped him, is they hadn’t started production of extended cabs yet. They were focusing on getting the regular cabs out, because that’s what most people wanted. My how times have changed.

When I owned a single-cab truck, I hated the lack of interior space. It didn’t help that it was a mini-truck. The first truck I bought was an extended cab. I’ve enjoyed my WRX, but there are days that I really miss driving a truck. Having sampled double-cabs from the big three, I’m sure that if I buy big, it will be a 4-door Ford. However, a decent mid-size extended cab at the right price would be very tempting.

Agree. The jellybean was the worst but people loved them. I agree they need to take a chance. But, Chevrolet took a chance and overstyled their truck and it was met with large amounts of internet ban-hammer. It’s definitely grown on me but I know plenty of people that it hasn’t.

The jellybean is the last good truck from Ford! Well kinda. The hood was lower for better visibility versus the previous generation and all subsequent generations.
It rode much better over it’s predecessor . It was the last truck by Ford that didn’t try to appear to be this huge big, bold in your face truck. It was capable and understated.
Everything since has been how can we make this truck more truck to out truck all other trucks for all the parking lot cowboys.

To me, a horizontally bisected elongated rhombus/

All of my trucks have been extended cab, except for my crew cab Sierra. I remember well how cramped the cabs of my dad’s ‘79 K10 and ‘88 K1500 were though. I eye- roll incredibly hard every time I read internet comments that every truck should have a regular cab and an 8' bed like the good old days.
I like a regular cab truck as much as anybody, but I also like the other options too, depending on the required use.

Im less inclined to feel that way. The new Silverado has grown on me quite a bit. The Blazer, even at it's inflated price, is selling well even at my small dealership. It's selling at an emotional level. People are buying it for it's aesthetics. The only thing I need them to address is the Silverado's interior.

Not quite . It’s when the same organ or body configuration evolves on different branches of the evolutionary tree. It’s more like nature saying, “You need eyes? Here, let me dig that plan out of the filing cabinet.”

Because it pretty much is a major refresh, while it looks like the majority of the panels are new, the cab is definitely the same. Not the first time Ford has done this, but there’s enough changed here that I’ll let the “all new” thing slide.

Grandpa’s truck was only usable because he put a camper shell on it, took the rear window out and installed a boot to the back. We would ride back there on long trips.

Where did everyone sit? Was it just the two of you?
I made many trips in my little truck. I kept a tarp and some rope behind the seat so I’d have something handy to cover whatever was in the back. For a long time I considered buying the factory external tie-downs for my truck.
I never did, though. I wrecked my truck while in college and my mom gave me her old subaru wagon. I got rid of that after I graduated and bought an extended cab truck. I still carried a tarp around in a toolbox so I’d have something to cover cargo when I needed to.

I look at the VW GTI and the Porsche 911 sort of the same way. In term of styling both look like they’ve been revisions since 2005 for both of them in terms of the realease of the MKV and 997. Especially when you compare the MKIV and 996 and previous.
I think the 2006 GTI is better looking than what’s about to be released, no joke.

I would sit in the middle. My dad would drive and whatever adult was going fishing with us would get the passenger side. Of course there were also times we went fishing in my uncle’s cargo van. In those cases I would sit on an upside down 5-gallon bucket in the back, with all the unsecured tools.
Even though I have a bed cover (a soft folding one, which I absolutely love) , I still keep a tarp and various tie downs handy for those occasions when they are needed.

The Porsche 911 is the the ultimate example of this. Put an early one next to a new one, and they’re wildly different. Each new generation never really looks that different from the last one. The only possible exception would be the 996.
